Adult Soccer 7 v 7 at Snellville Parks

The 7 vs 7 soccer league is an open co-ed league for adults with a regular season and a single elimination tournament following the regular season.

GAMES
Games are played on Friday evenings at 7, 8 and 9 p.m.  Make up games due to rain outs will be added on to the end of the season or played on Saturday afternoons.

Spring 2010 registration is open from January 11- February 12 with games beginning February 26th.

FEES:
$375 per team, $315 City Limit Resident Team(>51%);  $100 Deposit (non-refundable) due by Feb 12, 5 p.m. to ensure a spot in the League.  Limited space is available.

Table Tennis is Returning to Rhodes Jordan Every Wednesday Night

Table Tennis at Rhodes Jordan

Table tennis is returning to Rhodes Jordan every Wednesday night beginning January 6th 2010. Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation will be utilizing the whole gym each Wednesday for open play.

Hours 6:00 – 9:00

Cost for Gwinnett County residents - $2 for adults and $1 for under age 18

Cost for out of county residents – $4 for adults and $2 for under age 18

All participants must show photo ID to receive county resident rate.

Thanks go out to Stacy Fowler of Gwinnett Parks and Recreation for getting table tennis going again at Rhodes Jordan. Under the new arrangement the county takes on full responsibility for the table tennis program at Rhodes Jordan. Patsy and Jon Gustavson have taken on positions with the Atlanta Georgia Table Tennis Association operating from Lucky Shoals. Jon is “excited to have the opportunity to play in Lawrenceville again and looks forward to seeing everyone at Rhodes Jordan on the 6th.

SECOND ANNUAL RIDE FOR RALLY SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 17

The second annual Ride for Rally benefiting the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research will be held at Addictive Cycling/Cafeine Café at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2009.

In honor of childhood cancer survivor Russell Tindol, the 50 mile ride was started last year by the Frazier Cycling members to show their cycling teammate Russell their support and help raise awareness for childhood cancer.  Russell has been in remission for one year and is back on his bike!

This year’s ride will offer a 10, 30 or 50 mile option and will be a social ride for all ages and levels.  You can register on line until Friday, October 16 or day of registration will begin at 7:00 a.m.  There will be a social BBQ after the ride that includes hot dogs & hamburgers for all riders.  There will also be live music provided by ACT 13 that will begin at 10:45 a.m.

Sponsored by Frazier Cycling, Addictive Cycling and Allgood Pest Solutions, entry fees for the ride are $30 on line or $35 day of the ride.

Corporate Challenge Celebrates 10 Years; Raising more than $92,000 over 10-year span

This year’s 10th annual Gwinnett Parks Foundation Corporate Challenge was a fun and rewarding success once again! The competition, which began on June 13 with Laser Tag and finished this Sept. 19 with a 5K Run, had 13 companies throughout Gwinnett competing in fun activities and challenges including Basketball, Billiards, Bowling, Disc Golf, Golf, Kickball, Laser Tag, Sand Volleyball, Table Tennis, Tennis, and Trivia.

This year, Cisco placed First Place in Div. A (100+ employees) and WIKA took Second Place in Div. A.

First Place in Div. B (1-99 employees) went to Rehrig Pacific Company and Second Place, Div. B to BravePoint.

Monies raised from the Gwinnett Parks Foundation Corporate Challenge go toward recreation scholarships that allow children and senior citizens an opportunity to participate in summer camps, sports programs, swim lessons, and other recreation classes who may not have been financially able to do so. Over the last 10 years, the Corporate Challenge has raised more than $92,000 toward the scholarship fund.

People are often surprised to find that there is a thriving table tennis program in Gwinnett County. Between the Gwinnett program at Rhodes Jordan Park and the Atlanta Georgia Table Tennis Association at Lucky Shoals over one hundred people a week participate, utilizing thirty tables.  These programs offer recreational open play and league matches to every age group and players of every level of experience. Next Christian Runner’s Club Group Run at Suwanee Creek Park

christianrunnnersThe Christian Runners Club started as a small little running group in north Atlanta that decided to pray before they run, giving praise and thanks to their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

It’s expanded since and continues meeting and running throughout the Metro Atlanta area.

Their next free group run is July 18 @ 7am on the Suwanee Greenway meeting at the southernmost trailhead: Suwanee Creek Park at 1175 Buford Highway, Suwanee, 30024.  The park is across the street from the animal rescue center and Suwanee Creek bike shop. The trail is about 9 miles.  Run more or less as needed for your training schedule.

The Gwinnett Sports Commission (GSC) and Top View Sports will bring you the 3rd Annual Gwinnett Bike Fest, July 22-26. This year’s event has been expanded to 6 races over 5 days, building off the success of last year’s event that drew over 500 participants from 11 states. With a prize purse of over $11,000 distributed daily and overall the Gwinnett Bike Fest will attract both amateur and professional cyclists of all ages from around the Southeast and will benefit the American Cancer Society and Foster Children’s Foundation. In its 3rd year of existence, the Gwinnett Bike Fest has turned out to be one of the biggest bike races in the Southeast, and a race that cyclists everywhere circle on the calendars as a must to attend. Daily and overall prizes will be presented in an effort to promote riders to participate in all events. This year’s schedule of events has a little bit of everything.

Frazier Cycling, TopView Sports and the Gwinnett Sports Commission have teamed up to bring you another high quality, first-class bike racing event, with proceeds benefiting the Georgia Chapter of the American Parkinson’s Disease Association. Over 300 riders from Georgia and the Southeast will compete in the Cycle For Parkinsons two day event (a part of the Georgia Cycling Gran Prix)

The Georgia Cycling Gran Prix is a bike points series which includes 25 days of racing through 12 events, produced by four different promoters. In its inaugural year this series will associate Georgia’s best long standing events into a year-long points system.

The Gwinnett Runners Club will be running on Wednesday nights at Little Mulberry Park. The park has two 2-mile multi-use trails that are connected as well as a nice 4.5 mile cross-country trail. The park offers plenty of shade and should make running in the summertime more comfortable.

The club will be meeting at the Hog Mountain Rd. entrance which is located 3900 Hog Mountain Rd, Dacula, GA 30019 at 7pm.

The Gwinnett Running Club ia a running group in the Northern Gwinnett area, and membership is free. Registration prior to running would be suggested. They welcome walkers and runners of all abilities and styles – short or long distances, road or trail.  Check out their calendar page to see the scheduled run times. Their group runs are currently in the Suwanee (the Greenway at 7:30am on Saturdays) and Lawrenceville area.
