Duluth Celebrates America at Scott Hudgens Park July 3rd

2010 The City of Duluth is pleased to announce our Annual Duluth Celebrates America Event! The public is invited to attend this spectacular patriotic celebration that will end with a BANG on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Scott Hudgens Park which is conveniently located in River Green Business Park at 4545 River Green Parkway, Duluth, GA, 30096. Convening at Scott Hudgens Park on its acres and acres of soccer field grounds fronting the Chattahoochee River, this celebration represents all that Duluth is proudly known to uphold: “Capture the Spirit of Good Living”.

Gates will open at 5 pm with a fabulous fireworks display at dusk.  Admission and Parking are FREE but monetary donations will be graciously accepted to help offset costs.  The stage show will begin promptly at 6 pm with the welcome by Mayor of Duluth, Ms. Nancy Harris and the singing of the National Anthem.  Festivities will include lots of family friendly activities: inflatable rides, rock wall, carnival games, pony rides, face painting, food vendors and live entertainment featuring:  Full Circle, Stephen Norwood and Metro Jazz Club. *NOTE: Activities and food will require a fee.

Snellville Days, Saturday May 1st at Briscoe Park

Mother's Finest

Saturday, May 1 is Snellville Days beginning at wisteria village for the parade with grand marshal, mary jane gresham and special guest elly mae clampett from the beverly hillbillies. Snellville Days is held at Briscoe Park and it’s free.

Saturday, May 1, 10am to 7pm Sunday, May 2, 10am to 5pm

On both days you’ll find over 200 vendors, kids field with rides & petting zoo, two continuously running entertainment stages and  dog n disc.

On Saturday (only): the parade, elly mae clampett signing autographs, car show and evening concert

On Sunday (only): helicopter rides, free saturday evening concert featuring Mother’s Finest. The pre-show and giveaways start at 6:30 pm behind the park office. Bring a blanket or a chair. Concessions available.

The Parade

The annual parade kicks off the Snellville Days Festival on Saturday, May 1st at 10:00am. Various entries including schools, churches, civic organizations and businesses, will participate in this year’s parade.

Mother’s Finest
The group has created a sound they describe as a fusion of Funk, Rock, Gospel, R&B Metal and Jazz, taken directly from the street to the stage to the studio, that is Afro-Euro Mosaic Soulful and Electric, transcending musical division, and negative stereotyping. They call it METAFUNK’NPHYSICAL, the running title of their latest CD. Visit their MySpace page to hear their music.

The Disc and Dog Championship

The Disc Dog Spring Championships is fun for all people and dogs of all ages and levels. WOOF! Sports USA, the event producer, and the Greater Atlanta Dog & Disc Club, the host club, have been organizing this event for over 17 years and it is a great way for pet owners to come out and join in the fun.

Snellville’s 28th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting

On Monday, December 7 at 7 p.m., the City of Snellville will celebrate its 28th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting on the lawn at City Hall. The theme this year is “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” Snellville’s own Deborah Rich will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies. Featured performers include Jackie O. Ginn, Jackie Howard, Renee Walker, Britt Elementary School 4th-5th Grade Chorus, Snellville Middle School 6th Grade Chorus, South Gwinnett High School Choir and Marching Band, First Baptist Snellville Children’s and Joyful Sound Adult Choirs, and St. Oliver’s Catholic Church Ladies Quartet. Mayor Jerry Oberholtzer will lead the countdown to the lighting of the tree just prior to Santa’s arrival.

Children will have the opportunity to visit Santa. Picture packages will be available for a small fee. The Snellville Keenager Club will be hosting refreshments inside City Hall. Marines with Toys for Tots will be our guests and collecting toys for Christmas. We urge you to find the true meaning of the season and bring a small, unwrapped toy for a child in need or make a monetary donation to this worthy cause. In addition to collecting toys, the City will be collecting canned goods for the Southeast Gwinnett Cooperative Ministry as part of the “Can Do” initiative with the Gwinnett Municipal Association.

The City of Snellville would like to thank Walton EMC, Snellville Downtown Development Authority, Summit Chase Country Club, Deborah and Harry Rich, United Community Bank, Georgia Property Restoration, Odd Job Bob, Beck Law Firm, Rotary Club of Gwinnett Sunrise, Akil A. 10th Annual Indian Festival and Pow Wow at Stone Mountain

Discover culture, history and tradition at the 10th Annual Indian Festival and Pow Wow, Nov. 5-8. With over fifty tribes represented, guests experience hands-on demonstrations of fire making, basket weaving, hide tanning, weaponry making and cooking. Additionally, Native Americans from across the United States will gather to compete in dance and drum competitions.

Who: Guests can experience the South’s premier festival of its kind by journeying through the tipi village with styles dating back to the 1800s. An East meets West Encampment compares and contrasts the lifestyle of Southeastern and Plains Indians. “Ruins to Rapids” Full Moon Hike

Sweetwater Creek State Park – Lithia Springs

This 1.5-mile guided hike is moderately difficult and visits the Civil War-era textile mill ruins of New Manchester and follows the lovely rapids (up to class IV) of Sweetwater Creek. Panola Mountain State Park – Stockbridge

Join us aloft in “Naomi Ruth,” a wonderful 90-foot Southern Red Oak, which is our living classroom. This nocturnal climb will include fluorescent lichen and other glowing critters of the night, stargazing and night climbing activities. We may even have a barred owl join us. Wood Carving 101

Saturday, October 24, 2 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Panola Mountain State Park - Stockbridge

During this introductory course, learn how to carve wood by hand, shaping it into art. The course will cover types of wood, carving tools and equipment, and hands-on instruction. Participants will carve in-the-round and relief. A 1 1/2 hour workshop will be offered after the clinic. Register in advance. $45 plus $5 parking. (770) 389-7801.

Duluth Fall Festival

The Duluth Fall Festival is on Saturday, September 26th from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm & Sunday, September 27th from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. The event takes place in Downtown Duluth and the Town Center Green.

  • Road Race on Sunday at 8:00 am.
  • Entertainment will fill the day. Check out the schedule here or see below.
  • Parade - see local middle school and high school orchestras and bands, fire trucks, antique cars, local dignitaries, boy scouts, girl scouts, dance classes, sponsors, and clowns! The parade begins Saturday at 10:00am. Streets close by 9:45am so come early.
  • Shop hundreds of arts and crafts vendors, enjoy food and drink of all kinds, fabulous entertainment, and experience the spirit that makes Duluth so special.
