Harbins Park still doesn’t show up on most maps or even a Google Earth image, but it sounds like a place to look into 10/2/10. A tangent question; is there no Federal assistance funds available for infrastructure to finally get started on the Greenway from George Pierce Park in Suwanee to Bogan Park, Buford? Fulton County will soon have at least 10-miles of continuous Greenway in only 1 of such multi-paths in its county. Gwinnett has zero Greenway miles accept those put in by the City of Suwanee. There aren’t even plans for the most obvious asset location; along the Chattahoochee. Gwinnett’s Greenway has been on the “books” for minimum 8 years (“property acquisition and planning”). Simple observation indicates Greenway use in Suwanee is appreciated by a large number of Gwinnett residence. Adjoining it utilizing a start from existing County property such as the water treatment plant, water pipe right of way along Ivy
Creek and the Environmental Center path in Buford should be a no brainer. Completing it through to Bogan Park would be a minimum of 12-miles with Suwanee’s Greenway included. This would be a valuable asset to Gwinnett County residence. When will new Greenway construction begin?

My boys (15 and 6) and I did the hiking trails one Saturday and i agree with you. There needs to be better markings on the trails and definitely mileage markings. The trail we walked was 4.5 miles and with a six year old in tow it wasn’t easy. But, we had fun. I’ll pass your remarks onto the county park system – however, with the budget cuts that were handed down recently I doubt there issues would be attended to anytime soon. The Parks folks are great. They’re budgets been strained this past year. Thanks for commenting.

The park is awesome for hikers, bikers and horseback riding, but the trails are POORLY marked. From years of mountain bike riding, trails should be blazed with tree markings. The posts are too few and far between, and they don’t even have mileage on them. Further, they can become damaged easier. Crossing junctions should be carefully marked; one doesn’t know which way to go, especially crossing easements and horsetrail.

Mileage is a must on the maps!!!!! This way the hiker, biker, etc. knows how much time s/he needs to complete trail, or whether s/he is capable of doing it.

Awesome park, and our family appreciates it being in our community!

In case, anybody is wondering why, mountain bikes are quiet in a way that really spooks horses. Plus they go so fast that’s it hard to get out of the way before the horse spooks.

Yes I have found that bikes are not allowed on the equestrian trails. At this time the only park where bikes and horses share the same path is at Tribble Mill Park.

I couldn’t find anything either. But, I’m putting this question to the parks and rec dept. of gwinnett. It’s a shame they don’t use social media. We’d get the answers faster.

Is it against the rules to ride bicycles on the horse trails? I cant find in the rules where it states this. However, the equestrian people say it is.

At Harbins Park the hiking trail is 4.5 miles, there is also a 3.8 mile multi-purpose paved trail.

My husband and I just walked the hiking trail and wondered how long it is? It was a great hike, very peaceful and a good length.
