“STILL LIFE” ART EXHIBIT at Pinckneyville Park Community Center

DavidGentry

A free art exhibit featuring the works of David Gentry will be on display at Pinckneyville Park Community Recreation Center from Nov. 21 through Jan. 12. The “Still Life” exhibit displays an eclectic style derived from the influences of several notable instructors in ceramics, painting, drawing and metal sculpture. David Gentry has always had a passion for photography and pottery, and has reached outside his comfort zone over the past year to explore art and life in new and unique ways. As Gentry explained, this exhibit represents “the convergence of influences which represents a year’s worth of memory snapshots in ceramics, metalwork, painting, drawing and photography. It is a celebration of recalling life lived, seeking passion in our daily living and reminding ourselves that there is still life ahead.” David Gentry uses pottery and art as his outlets for creativity and stress relief, and prefers to share his works with family and friends, while donating the bulk of his work to support church missions’ projects and other community causes.

An Artist Reception will be held Thurs., Dec. 1, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Exhibit hours are Mon. – Thurs. 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., Fri. 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Sat. 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Admission is free. TWO FREE ART EXHIBITS AT PINCKNEYVILLE PARK COMMUNITY RECREATION CENTER

Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation’s Pinckneyville Park Community Recreation Center is sponsoring a free exhibit of two-dimensional work of the Elizabeth Bame titled “Quiet Impressions” and three-dimensional work of Carlos Almaguer titled “Force of Nature.”

Painting by Elizabeth Bame

Many of Elizabeth Bame’s paintings were inspired from her trips to Europe, as well as the U.S. She has been in numerous juried shows, won several awards, and was selected for the Red Cinder Artist-in-Residence program in 2003. She enjoys painting portraits and at various times has taught classical portrait painting at The Art School in Sandy Springs. “With each painting, my ultimate goal is not merely the composition of an attractive scene, but the creation of a moment. And that moment is not an instant or a second. That moment should linger and breathe deeply. If I can take that moment and make it last forever, if I can somehow recreate that perfect experience of peace, then I believe I’ve been successful,” says Bame.

Juan Carlos Almaguer grew-up in Chicago, attended the University in Monterrey Mexico, and began throwing pots in 2004 as a hobby. The simple yet intense process of wheel throwing was exciting and relaxing at the same time. Here was something as simple as earth, with the combination of water and fire that could turn out a creation which outlasts a lifespan.  It is both intimidating and inspiring. “Most of my work is experimental by nature, I like to try new techniques and enjoy the versatility of a three dimensional surface” says Almaguer.

TWO FREE ART EXHIBITS AT PINCKNEYVILLE PARK COMMUNITY RECREATION CENTER

Johns Creek Fine Art Group

Johns Creek Fine Art Group

Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation’s Pinckneyville Park Community Recreation Center is sponsoring a free exhibit of two-dimensional work of the Johns Creek Fine Art group titled “TAPROOTS” and three-dimensional work of David Gentry titled “Gone To Pot.”

Johns Creek Fine Art is a group of five women: Nancy Dusenberry, Jan Eubanks, Cathy Fowler, Robin Garrison and Kay Hibbard, brought together by their passion for art. Two elements that bring these women together are a zeal for painting and their belief that painting from life brings a certain and essential truth to the work. This unifying point of view excites each artist to paint on location or from life in the studio and finally to exhibit together.

David Gentry has a love for making pictures into three-dimensional works of art. Gentry loves the mesmerizing effect of throwing on the wheel, but thrives on the creative process of altering thrown pottery. His pottery style is eclectic and strongly informed by his early teachers including Stacey Hendley Elser, Barb Swanner, Renee Duffy and Regina Wolfe. He is most commonly known as the “Carver” in the studio because of his increasing use of relief carving in most of his work.

An opening reception will be held Thurs., Aug. 6 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.  Both exhibits will be on display Aug. 5 through Oct. 27. Exhibit hours are Mon. – Thurs. 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., Fri. 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Sat. 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Admission is free.
