CHAA Collins Hill Athletic Association’s Fall 3-on-3 Basketball

Posted by admin on August 11, 2009  |  No Comments

Fall 3-on-3 Basketball

Based on the success of their summer program, CHAA is happy to continue our partnership with SASS Sports Fundamentals in offering a 3-on-3 basketball league to our membership for the fall season. As many of you know, the decline in registration numbers in the past few fall seasons has resulted in CHAA no longer being able to offer a traditional fall basketball league. Jon Upton and Greg Parker, long-time CHAA coaches, have worked diligently to develop an alternative program that will allow players to play competitive basketball in the fall season, and also get expert training on fundamental skills and agility

Intro: 3 on 3 basketball is growing rapidly in the Southeast and Atlantic Coast regions, and has been popular in the NE and West for some time. 3 on 3 is an excellent way to quickly learn or to improve ball-handling, shooting, and rebounding skills. The players get more court time, more games, more support, all while having fun, and it is very affordable. Since half courts are used, players get more inside play, more passing, no wasted time, and everyone handles the ball. During the summer season each team played at least 15 games, plus their tournament games.

Registration: The initial registration is 8/15 from 1 to 3 pm at the Collins Hill Park Concession Stand. Evaluations and late sign-ups are 8/22 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Rhodes Jordan Park gyms. Draft and team selections are on 8/26 and the players will be notified by their coaches by 8/28. First practices will be 8/31, times to be announced once gyms are set. The first two weeks prior to games, the younger age groups will have team speed, agility, ball-handling, and skills training and practices. The older groups will have team practices, and skills as necessary.

Uniforms: The CHAA uniforms from last season will not change, therefore will remain the same for this year. If you already have a CHAA uniform, or an older one, that will be fine for the fall. If you plan on playing winter basketball and do not have a uniform, you have the option of purchasing one now through CHAA. If you have no uniform that is OK, one white and one green tee shirt will do.

Schedule: Games will be at Rhodes Jordan Park and/or Collins Hill High School gyms- TBD. All games will be played on Saturday mornings between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm, and at least one night during the week. The season will end on 10/24 with the final tournaments. The cost is $88.00. Teams will have up to 6 players (3 on the court at one time), with a coach (volunteers needed).

Coaches: Approved coaches will receive an incentive towards their child’s fee- discuss with SASS director. Those interested in coaching, or with any questions, should call or email either Jon Upton or Greg Parker at the numbers and addresses on website. All coaches will have background checks and be approved by SASS and CHAA. SASS will referee and monitor all games and clocks will be used for time and score.

We hope to see you at registration. Check out the website to get more background, programs, photo pages, and other fun things.
