We’re Putting Down Roots, Arbor Day, Duluth Town Green, February 18

The City of Duluth will celebrate Arbor Day by planting a tree in the Town Green and at Bunten Road Park, Friday, February 18th.  The tree will be planted in the Town Green at 10 a.m. in honor of Jack Wynn and at Bunten Road Park at 11 a.m. in honor of Fred Bishop. Dr. Tommy Green, from Duluth First United Methodist Church, will be the speaker.

The Arbor Day Foundation has designated Duluth a Tree City USA for 22 years. This national designation requires Duluth to met four standards each year:

  • Must have a tree board or department.
  • Must have a tree-care ordinance.
  • Must have a comprehensive community forestry program.
  • Must hold an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

“We commend Duluth’s elected officials, volunteers and its citizens for providing vital care for its urban forest,” said John Rosenow, chief executive and founder of the Arbor Day Foundation. “Trees provide numerous environmental, economical and health benefits to millions of people each day, and we applaud communities that make planting and caring for trees a top priority.”
