Snellville’s 28th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting

On Monday, December 7 at 7 p.m., the City of Snellville will celebrate its 28th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting on the lawn at City Hall. The theme this year is “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” Snellville’s own Deborah Rich will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies. Featured performers include Jackie O. Ginn, Jackie Howard, Renee Walker, Britt Elementary School 4th-5th Grade Chorus, Snellville Middle School 6th Grade Chorus, South Gwinnett High School Choir and Marching Band, First Baptist Snellville Children’s and Joyful Sound Adult Choirs, and St. Oliver’s Catholic Church Ladies Quartet. Mayor Jerry Oberholtzer will lead the countdown to the lighting of the tree just prior to Santa’s arrival.

Children will have the opportunity to visit Santa. Picture packages will be available for a small fee. The Snellville Keenager Club will be hosting refreshments inside City Hall. Marines with Toys for Tots will be our guests and collecting toys for Christmas. We urge you to find the true meaning of the season and bring a small, unwrapped toy for a child in need or make a monetary donation to this worthy cause. In addition to collecting toys, the City will be collecting canned goods for the Southeast Gwinnett Cooperative Ministry as part of the “Can Do” initiative with the Gwinnett Municipal Association.

The City of Snellville would like to thank Walton EMC, Snellville Downtown Development Authority, Summit Chase Country Club, Deborah and Harry Rich, United Community Bank, Georgia Property Restoration, Odd Job Bob, Beck Law Firm, Rotary Club of Gwinnett Sunrise, Akil A. 22nd Lighting of the Tree Lights Up the Holiday Season!

Light up the 2009 holiday season with Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation and the Lawrenceville Tourism & Trade Association as they host the 22nd Annual Lighting of the Tree on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse in downtown Lawrenceville.

Enjoy a variety of holiday entertainment beginning at 5:30 p.m., including live musical entertainment from The Class Act Band, face painting ($5 ea.), joyful trolley rides, food concessions for sale, and of course the arrival of Santa Claus. It’s holiday time in Lawrenceville! Randy Travis of FOX 5 WAGA-Atlanta returns as emcee this year to host the evening festivities.

The holiday season begins for many Gwinnettians with the annual lighting of the tree ceremony, which begins at 6 p.m., and the much awaited arrival of Santa at approximately 6:45 p.m. Miss Gwinnett, Kristen Springer, will be on-hand to greet Santa as he arrives at the courthouse.

For a special treat this year, kids ages 15-under can ride with Santa on the Holiday Trolley as he makes his entrance at the tree lighting ceremony. They can also enjoy face painting and a photo with Santa on his sleigh. Tickets are $10 per person and space is limited. Call (770) 822-5450 to reserve your spot. Santa will greet the little ones on his sleigh outdoors from 6:45-8 p.m. Live entertainment will continue with singers and dancers on both sides of the courthouse throughout the evening until 8:30 p.m.

The holiday fun continues on throughout December at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse as the Santa Trolley once again rolls into the square on December 4 – 5 from 5 – 8 p.m., where children can ride along with the Jolly Ole Elf. Tickets are $2 per person.

Parents and children can take in a unique holiday show that is sure to be a treat – Page2Stage’s kid-friendly mystery dinner show “Grandma Got Run Over by Who?” at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse. Shows will run Dec. 3 – 5 at 6:30 p.m. and Dec. 5 at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $15 per person.

Santa returns to the courthouse on Dec. 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20 from 4:30 – 8 p.m. and Dec. 21 and 22 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. for visits and pictures in his beautifully-decorated room. Photos are $5 ea. Santa’s Elf Workshop will also be open for some fun kid’s crafting for $1 per child. Visitors can take a free tour of the historic courthouse and see all the wonderful decorations – there is something special in every corner!

Enjoy festive free live entertainment at the gazebo on the grounds of the courthouse on Dec. 13 at the gazebo. For those romantics, don’t miss the scenic carriage rides around the square only available this year on Sat., Dec. 19. Cost is $5 per person.
