Scuba Returns to Collins Hill Pool, Available at Bogan Park Too.

Scuba class at Bogam Park Pool

There were no dates on the flyer, but Scuba classes are coming back to Collins Hill. According to the information at hand the majority of time will be in the pool learning to dive – this, due to the PADI home study program.  Scuba training could be a great corporate team building experience too. You can share the excitement with the whole family (minimum age 10 years old-instructor evaluation is recommended of 10-12 year olds).

Diver Resource Inc is running the class, they also offer certification trips to the Florida Keys.

Tuition runs $175 (includes academic and pool sessions, audio/visual training aids, air delivery system, boyancy compensator, tanks, weights and weight belt.

Personal gear (mask, snorkel, fins and booties) will be provided by the student. Discount personal gear packages and expert fitting available from Divers Resource. PADI open water diver manual and RDP dive planning table runs $32.75 Personal identification card $15.

Minimum class size is 4. Classes are also offered at Bogan Park Pool., Weekday or weekend schedules are available.

Table Tennis

The Atlanta Georgia Table Tennis Association (AGTTA) is beginning a free coaching program. This is an opportunity for local players to benefit from quality training and instruction at no cost.

Beginning June 6th and continuing every Sunday at 1:30 (women’s group at 2:30) at the Lucky Shoals gym

Every player of any level can benefit from training. Our coaches are qualified to work with you whether you are a beginner or a pro and will provide an hour to an hour and a half lesson.

There is no charge for coaching. Admission to the gym is $3 for AGTTA members and $5 for non members. Everyone is welcome to stay for open play after training.

Everyone who plays would like to play better. Good players have all gotten good training at some point. Once a week group training is not going to turn your game around over night. In time though it can enhance your enjoyment, understanding, and level of play. The free coaching program is a benefit of being associated with AGTTA.

AGTTA is limiting the size of each group to six players and separating players by skill level as well as by age. Groups are already beginning to form.

This class will focus on the fundamentals of good manners by teaching sit, down, heel, and come with the positive
CLICKER method. By the end of class, your dog will be on the road to becoming an AKC Canine Good Citizen

The Gwinnett SenioR Learning Center offers computer skills classes for seniors age 50 and over. Computer workshops
and courses on topics such as computer basics, e-mail, and word processing are taught in relaxed, friendly classes by

The two hour classes meet one day a week from one to eight weeks, depending on the course. Class fees range from

Update on Gwinnett Table Tennis at Gwinnett Park Community Centers

Some of you may have heard that Gwinnett Table Tennis might be losing the use of the Rhodes Jordan gym during the upcoming basketball season. Every year we have lost Saturdays but this year we look to be losing Wednesdays as well. I recently met with officials from the parks and recreation department to discuss this with them. The reason for the change this year has to do with a lack of gym space for youth basketball. As of right now our last Wednesday night will be November 11th and our last Saturday will be November 7th. The remaining Wednesdays we will also be sharing the gym with adult basketball.

My intention is to continue to work with Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation to come up with a way to provide more stability to the Gwinnett program. Fortunately the AGTTA program at Lucky Shoals should not be affected by the basketball season this year. I would like to thank everyone for their support of what has been a very special time and a lot of fun. I will continue to keep everyone up to date on any changes.

Glam Star Dance Project at Duluth’s Bunten Rd Park

GlamStar Dance Project was created for youth ages,
6-14 years old who have a desire to study recreational
dance and learn tips from professionals. The skills
these students learn will be transferable when they
return to their respective, or prospective, dance
squads/teams and/or to those who simply have an
interest in a fun way to increase exercise and physical
fitness.

Outcomes of the GlamStar Dance Project
— After participating in the GlamStar Dance Project, the students will be able to:
• increase their body awareness through dance improvisation;
• use physical movement as a form of therapy;
• gain confidence and poise in dancing solo, or in small groups, in front of an
audience;
• give and receive constructive criticism;
• understand the logistics of putting on a dance show; and
• appreciate the history and development of various dance forms and its origins.
