Pinckneyville Middle School is one of the beneficiaries of race proceeds.

We will staff the water stations, have runners participating, help along the course, and cheer the racers along the way.  Last year the volunteers had a blast!  We had a band at the school and boom boxes at other water stations.  Lots of runners told us they loved the cheering, music, and high fives!  This is a FUN volunteer activity and a great way to show the spirit of Pinckneyville Middle School.

We need at least 5 adult captains for our stations and volunteer kids to help.  The race begins at 7:30, so you’ll finish before most Saturday sports begin.  High school students and scouts who would like to help with community service are welcome, too!  If you can support our school and community as a volunteer, please respond to Florence Luranc atfLuranc@bellsouth.net.     If you would like to participate as a runner, walker, or tot trotter, please go towww.CornersToCrossing.com.   This is a great community event you won’t want to miss!

Youth Track and Field in Gwinnett

Someone just recently posted a question about youth Track and Field in Gwinnett.  It seems most times the schools are the best place to start. My son just started Cross Country for the first time at Norcross High School. He had a good time, ran at least 4 miles a day (sometimes 7-8) and competed on the weekends at different 5K events. He enjoined it and built up some great friendships – he intends to continue in the spring in track and fields and then run through the summer program with the other boys. By the fall he’ll be ready for Cross Country again.

In the mean time to answer the youth running question. Outside of the high schools and some middles school you can try:

Lightning Spikes

Registration for the 2010 Season Begins November 21, 2009. Registration will be held at Berkmar High School between 12pm-2pm. Download and complete registration forms off their site.

Corporate Challenge 2009

The Gwinnett Corporate Challenge brings together companies that compete in activities such as golf, kickball, rock climbing, tennis, trivia, bowling, a 5K run, team building exercises, table tennis, a scavenger hunt, laser tag, and sand volleyball. Money raised from the Challenge goes toward recreation scholarships that allow Gwinnett’s children and senior citizens an opportunity to participate in summer camps, swim lessons, sports, and recreation classes who may not have been financially able to do so.

In the past the event has taken place in September over two weeks and in a variety of parks and settings.

Contact John Register at john.register@gwinnettcounty.com or call 770.822.5454 to register. Get reduced early bird fee until June 12!
