The Bicycle Wheel to host Grand Opening of Expanded Location Local store begins its seventh year of operations in Johns Creek

The Bicycle Wheel, a locally-owned bike store in the Johns Creek community for the past six years, is expanding and moving to a new location.  The new store will be in the Medlock Bridge Shopping center off of Medlock Bridge Road.  The new address is 6000 Medlock Bridge Parkway, Suite E-1000, Johns Creek, GA 30022.  The company’s phone number, business hours and website will remain the same.

The store will feature a new “industrial” look inside with a larger parking lot to accommodate more customers on Saturdays and holidays.  There will also be a flat test ride area behind the store where customers can try out bikes before they make a purchase.  “In addition to having outgrown our current location, our existing parking lot is cramped and has become a cut-through for the adjacent shopping center.  This new store will allow for safer test rides and more parking.  We couldn’t be more excited about the move,” stated Scott Jones, owner of The Bicycle Wheel.

To celebrate the move, the store is hosting a Grand Opening/Customer Appreciation Day on Saturday, August 7th, from 9:00am until 7:00pm.  The event will feature a free breakfast after the Saturday morning ride along with a full day of events including vendor exhibits from Shimano, Saris, Pacific and Cannondale, children’s activities, complimentary lunch, rider demonstrations and much more.  ns and much more. The Grand Opening Celebration of Freeman’s Mill Park will take place Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 10am. Members of the board of commissioners, the Recreation Authority and active members of the community will performa Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony at 10 a.m.

The festivities will take place between 10:30a.m. and 2:00 p.m. with free kids activities, historical demonstrations, guided tours and more.

The park features a restored historic gristmill (a building in which grain is ground into flour), playground featuring replica gristmill, a half mile paved multi-purpose trail and restrooms.

According to OurTown (Snellville), “The mill was built sometime between 1868 and 1879 by brothers John Griffin Loveless and Levi J. Loveless. In 1913 W. Scott Freeman and his son, Winfield, owned it until it was purchased in 1915 by Newt Pharr. Winfield descendants continued to operate the mill through the twentieth century. In the late 1990’s the mill was placed on the National Register of Historic Places for its significance in architecture, engineering, industry, and social history. As of 1996, the mill was the only working grist mill remaining in Gwinnett County .”
