Publix Super Markets Sponsors New “Run Wild 5K” and Continues Support for 2009 Kids Fun Run

Publix Super Markets (www.publix.com) announces their title sponsorship of a new springtime “Run Wild 5K” that will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Grant Park in Atlanta, GA. With a start and finish near Zoo Atlanta, the 3.1-mile road race invites runners, joggers and walkers to “run wild” through the beautiful and historic neighborhoods around Grant Park. Publix now sponsors two events as part of the ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon weekend of activities: the Publix Run Wild 5K joins the sponsor’s ever-popular, and now expanded, Publix Kids Fun Run. Publix Returns as Sponsor of Weekend Events

“As we’ve grown, so has our partnership with Publix,” said Michael Hughes, race director of the ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon. “The new Publix Run Wild 5K is an opportunity for more individuals and more families to be part of the ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon race weekend.”

The Publix Run Wild 5K will start at 9:30 a.m. near the entrance to Atlanta’s Cyclorama, home of the one of the world’s largest paintings chronicling the Battle of Atlanta and home of the historic Civil War locomotive “TEXAS” (hero of the “Great Train Race”). The short course provides a perfect warm-up for runners who will be running in Sunday’s ING Georgia marathon or half marathon, and a great way for everyone else to be a part of the race weekend experience.

“The Publix Run Wild 5K and the Publix Kids Fun Run combine to create a terrific Saturday family event, “ said Brenda Reid, media and community relations manager for Publix Super Markets. “Publix supports this event because it encourages families to get out and enjoy a walk or quick run through one of Atlanta’s beautiful and historic neighborhoods. Staying physically fit and eating a balanced diet go hand-in-hand to promote a healthy lifestyle.”

For the Publix Run Wild 5K, every registered runner will receive an official race t-shirt and goodie bag. Children ages 10 and younger who run the Publix Kids Fun Run starting at 10:30 a.m. will receive an official t-shirt, finisher’s medal, and goodie bag. The finish line festivities for both races will offer for plenty of family-friendly activities including arts and crafts and surprise visits from local mascots. Both races are part of the official weekend activities of the third-annual ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon being held on Sunday, March 29.

Registration for the Publix Run Wild 5K is available online www.inggeorgiamarathon.com, or at the Health and Fitness Expo on race weekend.
