Community celebration planned for Rock Springs Park

Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation will host a grand opening celebration for Rock Springs Park  on Sat., May 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with festivities for all to enjoy!

Prior to the celebration, the Collins Hill Education Foundation will hold a 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk at 9:15 a.m. (registration begins at 8:30 a.m.). A ribbon-cutting ceremony follows at 10 a.m., followed by free activities including lacrosse demonstrations, free kids activities and crafts, tennis clinics, and a visit from the Gwinnett Braves’ mascot, Chopper. Food concessions will also be available for sale.

The 114-acre Rock Springs Park, which has opened up in phases over the last several months,  features a large playground, tennis center with six lighted courts, a football field with lighted walking track, a two-mile paved multi-purpose trail, soft surface trails, a suspension bridge, playground, pavilion and restrooms.

“As a youth football coach, I was happy that the Rock Springs Park football complex opened last fall – and now we’re ready to open the rest of this great park to the community,” said District 4 Commissioner Kevin Kenerly.

Funding for Rock Springs Park was made possible through the 2005 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) and totaled $6 million in design and construction costs. The park was designed by Lose & Associates, construction was managed by Jordan, Jones & Goulding and the contractor for the project was Ace Grading Company.

Rock Springs Park is located at 550 Rock Springs Road in Lawrenceville. For more information, call 770.822.8840 or visit www.gwinnettparks.com.
