Meteor Madness: See the Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower May 7, 2011

Meteor Madness is a chance to see the Eta Aquarids meteor shower from the highest point in Gwinnett County – the observation area at Little Mulberry Park. The Eta Aquarids meteor shower is one of the two meteor showers each year that result from the Earth passing through dust released by Halley’s Comet. The best time for viewing the meteor shower is from 3:30am – 5:30am on Saturday, May 7.

Daniel Herron from the Atlanta Astronomy Club will be on hand with his telescope to share with visitors, and to talk to the participants about the meteor shower. After the meteor shower, there will be a continental breakfast provided by the Atlanta Bread Company. The cost for this event is $5 per person. Participants are asked to register prior to the event. Participants are also requested to not use flashlights, head lamps or other light sources during the event, unless they have been tinted red to best help maintain your night vision.
