Silent Hunters: Owls

Discover what makes these raptors so intriguing as you head out to CNC in February. Don’t miss your chance to visit with a non-releasable owl. All ages. Backyard Bird Count
Saturday, February 14, 1:00 – 4:00.
Come and learn more about how you can be involved in the Great Backyard Bird Count.  Explore the Bird Bio Buggy and see CNC’s resident birds up close. All ages. Painting Nature in Watercolor
Saturday, February 14, 9:30 – 11:30 AM.
Join professional painter and local teaching artist Maureen Engle for a workshop in watercolor with nature themes. Painting will take place outside, weather permitting. We will continue to offer this class the first Saturday of each month, and it will be open to new & returning participants. $25 non-members/$20 members + $5 optional materials fee (includes paper + the use of paint & brushes). Chattahoochee Headwaters Day Hike
Saturday, February 21, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
Enjoy a day- hiking adventure to the headwaters of the Chattahoochee River with a CNC interpretative naturalist and High Country Outfitters guide. We’ll begin at Brasstown Bald and continue into the MarkTrail Wilderness, and onto the Appalachian Trail. This is a moderate hike with some off-trail walking. We will caravan from CNC. Bring water and a pack lunch. Snacks will be provided. $20 non-members/$15 members. Vegetable Gardening at Home
Sunday, February 22, 1:30 – 3:30 PM.
Learn from Farmer D, vice president of GA Organics & Biodynamic Farmer in this first of 4 workshops in a monthly series.  The first workshop will focus on “Planning the Garden”: site selection, soil testing and amending, garden design, seed ordering, plant selection & seasonal planting schedules. $30 non-members/$25 members (includes a 20LB bag of compost). Tree-mendous Trees

Join our friends from Dunwoody Nature Center to have a tremendous time learning about the trees in our forest. Train your eyes, ears, fingers and noses to get to know them better. Turtles of Georgia
Saturday, February 28, 6:00-8:00 PM.
Join Wildlife Director Kathryn Dudeck to learn about these fascinating reptiles! Topics covered will include habitats, diets, identification tips and legalities of ownership. Docent Orientation
Saturday, February 28, 12:30 – 5:00 PM.
In this introduction class, we will explore the various areas of education volunteering, including leading guided hikes on the weekends, interpreting exhibits around the grounds, and doing live animal presentations for visitors. Night Hike

Sandhill Crane Migration Bird Walk
Saturday, February 28   8:00-10:00 AM.
Join CNC wildlife volunteer and Master Birder, Stacy Zarpentine, for a morning bird walk to see, hear & identify the various species on our grounds.
