Flying Colors Butterfly Festival Delights All Ages

The Flying Colors Butterfly Festival will be back for two days this year at the new Discovery Center and Pavilion at the Chattahoochee Nature Center!

$8 ADMISSION FOR MEMBERS $10 ADMISSION FOR NON-MEMBERS

While native butterflies swirl above you, enjoy a picnic, enjoy a puppet show presented by Piccadilly Puppets that portrays the life cycle of a butterfly on Saturday or listen to live Latin music by Havana Son on Sunday.  You can also create arts and crafts, have butterflies painted on your face and visit fascinating entomology exhibits from the UGA Museum of Natural History, Monarchs Across Georgia and The Bee Project, all while witnessing nature’s marvelous pollinators! Be sure to bring your camera to capture these fantastic, fluttering creatures up close at the Chattahoochee Nature Center from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, on Saturday, July 18th or noon to 5pm on Sunday, July 19th, during our 10th annual Flying Colors Butterfly Festival.  Kids can wear their butterfly wings and antenna to march in our butterfly parades.   Native plants that attract butterflies will be on sale this year for avid garden lovers.  The Georgia Nature Photography Association and others will help you improve your photography skills while trying to capture a picture of these beautiful illusive insects.  So come play with nature and see the butterflies!
Butterfly Releases and Insect Scavenger Hunt
Witness the thrill of live butterfly releases!  Travel into the woods and find clues about butterflies and insects.  You can enter to win a prize if you find all the clues.

Butterfly Crafts and Face Painting
Kids will enjoy getting their face painted and creating arts and crafts with a butterfly theme under the big tent!

Live Entertainment
Saturday- Piccadilly Puppets present a puppet show that tells about the life cycle of a butterfly.

Sunday – Havana Son will thrill us with the sounds of Latin America, home to many butterflies.  You’ll love this fun-filled, interactive musical program teaching about the world.

Exhibits
Join the UGA Museum of Natural History and CNC to explore insect collections from around the world.  View Monarch’s Across Georgia, Monarch Watch to understand their migration patterns. The National Park Service will also display their native butterfly identification information and the Beekeepers will help you learn more about these amazing insects that call Georgia home!

Butterfly Gardening
Monarch’s Across Georgia will be selling host plants and nectar plants to help you attract butterflies to your garden.  Learn about other nectar and host plants in our Butterfly Garden.
